CALENDULA

Description:
Hardy annual garden plant, angular, branched, hairy stem, 1-2
ft. Alternate, hairy leaves are sessile, spatulate, dentate with
widely spaced teeth. Terminal flower heads, large yellow or orange.
Native of Europe, now widespread and cultivated in the U.S.
Edible,
Medicinal: Leaves, added to salads, flowers to garnish variety
of dishes, and found useful in face creams. Flowers help with
liver, stomach cramps, menstrual problems, gastritis, colitis,
diarrhea, fever, boils, ulcers and recurrent vomiting. Either
an infusion or juice from the dried or fresh flowers or leaves,
used in ointments for bruises, sprains and pulled muscles.
