(Geranium fremontii)
wild geranium, wild alum root
Description:
Common perennial plant, 1-2 ft. tall, erect, unbranched, covered
with hairs. Leaves parted, cleft and toothed. Flowers, pale to
rosy purple, veined, wooly at base of petals. Fruit, beaked capsule
divided into 5 cells with a seed in each. Found in low grounds
and woods.
Medicinal:
Root tea, is used as a diuretic, for upset stomach, neuralgia.
Made into a compress that is kept damp, for burns, bleeding wounds,
extracted tooth or nose bleed, infectious sores and piles. Leaf
tea also helps in diarrhea, internal bleeding, relaxed vagina,
diabetes, sore throat, mouth, thrush, toothache, pyorrhea and
a tonic.
