Indian pole, swamp hellebore
Description:
Tall perennial, coming from a thick rhizome. Stem is simple with
numerous broad, coarsely veined, alternate leaves, ovate to elliptic
in shape. White to greenish flowers are in dense panicles, the
branches crowded, spreading to ascending, not drooping. Fruit
is a 3-lobed capsule.
POISONOUS:
Entire plant toxic, violent, irritant poison, watering of the
mouth, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pains, general paralysis, spasms,
headache, hallucinations, low blood pressure. Severe cases may
cause difficulty in breathing, slow pulse, depressed heart action,
lowered temperature, convulsions and death. This plant is highly
poisonous and should only be used with professional advise. Used
to stimulate heart, for depression, mania, epilepsy, skin problems.
