KNOTWEED
(Polygonum persicaria)
beggarweed, crawlgrass, doorweed
Description:
Annual, creeping plant, prostrate stems. Alternate, sessile, lanceolate
leaves covered by brownish, sheathing, knot-like stipules, attached
to stem at the joints. Tiny axillary flowers, growing all along
the stem, are green and white or green with pink or purple margins.
World wide in waste places, by sidewalks, through cracks in cement
and cultivated soils.
Medicinal:
Whole plant ,useful in diarrhea, dysentery, diarrhea from inflammation
of the intestines, for all forms of internal bleeding, stomach
ulcers, and vomiting in infants. Taken regularly the tea or tincture
dissolves gravel and stones.
