TOBACCO
(Nicotiana tabacum)

Description:
Annual plant, 20 ft. tall, has long fibrous root. Stem,erect,
round, hairy and branches near the top. Large, soft leaves are
alternate, smooth-margined and simple. Sweet-scented white, greenish-yellow,
or purple tubular flowers form clusters at end of branches.
POISON:
All species have a high content of nicotine, especially in the
fresh foliage. Smoking the dried and cured leaves is considered
a dangerous practice. Effects of poison, rapid heart- beat, staggering,
weakness, staring, blindness and death. Other symptoms are nausea,
vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pains. As a snuff it causes violent
sneezing.
