Description:
Perennial, creeping rootstock sends up first the downy white,
scaly flower stems topped by large yellow flowers. Leaves stand
on long footstalks and are glabrous above, downy white beneath,
in shape of a colt's foot. Throughout U.S., in wet areas, by stream
banks, in pastures, and on ridges or embankments, preferring loamy
and limestone soils
MEDICINAL:
Leaves, flowers make a reliable remedy for respiratory problems.
Used for coughs, colds, hoarseness, bronchitis, bronchial asthma,
pleurisy and sore throat. Decoction of the leaves used externally
for insect bites, swellings, burns, leg ulcers and phlebitis.
