Description:
Annual or perennial. Creeping, branching stem, from deep tap root,
to 24 in. long, bears downy, rounded, crenate, slightly 5-7 lobed
leaves on long petioles. Axillary, purplish-pink, open trumpet-shaped
flowers. Flat seeds, called "cheeses", likeness to an
uncut cheese. World wide, in lawns, gardens, waste places.
EDIBLE-
MEDICINAL: Whole plant contains 268,000 Units of Vit. A, per
pound, rich in zinc. Cultivated many places as a potherb, used
as spinach. Tender shoots eaten as a salad. Helpful in kidney
and liver complaints. One kidney herb which can be taken in profuse
amounts without urinary stress. A cold tea for producing more
milk in nursing mothers.
