Description:
Perennial, with long taproot, stem erect, branching, 1-5 ft. tall.
Leaves, basal or alternate, pinnately compounded. Flowers, white,
tinged with light purple, arranged in flat topped compound umbels,
central flower usually dark red or deep purple. As flower head
matures it cups inward resembling a bird's nest. U.S. in old meadows
and pastures.
MEDICINAL:
Root contains vit. C, carotene, source of orange dye. A decoction
of the whole plant helps in liver, gall bladder and jaundice conditions,
parasites, laxative. Decoction of the roots used for anemia. Infusion
of the seeds and/ or herb, for gas, colic, hiccups, dysentery,
chronic coughs.
