Our lady's mint, Sage of Bethlehem
Description:
Perennial, 2 ft., distinguished by its nearly hairless, bright
green, lance-shaped, toothed and stalkless leaves having a strong,
sweet peppermint aroma. Square stem is topped by slender, interrupted,
leafless spikes of lavender flowers forming separate clusters
just below the top. Throughout the world in ditch banks, meadows,
moist soils.
EDIBLE,
MEDICINAL: Whole herb used as a culinary flavoring for candy,
toothpaste, cigarettes, vinegars, sauces, vegetables, desserts
and drinks. Helpful in common women's complaints, for painful
urination, colds, headaches and other pains. Essential oil is
used for shock, nausea and improved concentration, making ointments.
